One of the tourist attractions available in Sunny Beach Bulgaria is the opportunity to leave the beach and explore the real culture of Bulgaria in classic 4×4 Jeeps. This excursion cost us approximately 70 Lev per person or roughly £35 at the time. Over the course of about 6 hours you are taken in a convoy of Jeeps deep into the Bulgarian countryside. The route begins with leaving the tourist resort of Sunny Beach and entering the grassy outback of fairly straight and flat roads. This slowly begins to change as the terrain gets bumpier and you encounter steep hills and sharp 45 degree turns. Before you know it you are driven through a small river stream which may get you wet.
Time for a short break as the extremely funny tour guide calling himself your mum or “mama” briefs you on the events of the day. The first stop you are informed of is a Whisky shop. This is not any ordinary whisky as the Jeeps stop in a small village and you enter what looks like a small brick room. Inside this room is an active homebrew operation to create Rakia the traditional Bulgarian alcoholic whisky drink. At 70% proof you feel the burn as it goes down your neck.
